Athena shops across multiple secondaries at once to save you time finding the best deals
Background
In the ever-evolving landscape of independent pharmacy, optimizing profitability is a delicate act. The "Opportunity" feature powered by our AI, Athena, is designed to help you increase profits while saving you time. Athena harnesses the power of data analysis for smarter and faster purchasing decisions. In this article, we'll explore how to effectively utilize Athena’s curated Opportunity to optimize savings.
Understanding your Opportunity
Athena uses your pharmacy's dispensing data to curate a tailored list of recommended products based on your historical usage. She analyzes price catalogs from various secondary wholesalers and your primary wholesaler to pinpoint who to purchase from to get the best deal. No need to spend hours taking sales calls or shopping multiple secondary wholesaler websites to find the best deal. Athena does the work for you.
How it works
To access your Opportunity, select the fire icon menu item:
The Usage Analyzed to generate your list of recommendations is displayed at the top of the report. The default period is the past 30 days.
Tip: You can update the Dispensing Data Analysis period in your Settings.
By default, your Opportunity is sorted by your percentage savings compared to your primary wholesaler. In other words, your most valuable purchasing opportunity will be at the top of the list.
- Sort by or Hide columns by selecting the ellipses menu by the column title.
- Review and edit item Qty before adding item(s) to the Cart.
Best practices (Top Five)
(1) Filter by wholesaler to reach order minimums
Are you done shopping but haven’t reached order minimums for certain wholesalers? Go to Opportunity and select the wholesaler’s Generics Minimum card at the top of the report, or go to “More Shop Filters”, to view recommendations specific to a wholesaler. Review the filtered list and add product to your Cart until the minimum is met. Track your progress as you go by viewing the Generics Minimum card.
(2) Toggle “Only Non-Oral Solids” to avoid negatively impacting your compliance
A quick and easy way to shop deals without worrying about your compliance is to activate the “Only Non-Oral Solids” filter. This will identify items that will not impact your primary compliance. GPR evaluates purchasing and dispensing for tablets and capsules only.
(3) Sort by Dispensing Profit to mitigate losses
Sort your Opportunity by Dispensing Profit (ascending) to target the items that are hurting your bottom line the most and soften the blow by strategically purchasing away.
(4) Dive deeper with Dispensing Analytics
Looking to understand the details of an item recommendation, including a line-by-line comparison with your primary wholesaler and a full profit analysis? Simply click anywhere on the Opportunity row and you’ll be taken to Dispensing Analytics to see a comprehensive view of the Opportunity.
(5) Substitute equivalent items to avoid excess inventory
Pay mind to the “Excess Inventory Caution” warning, which advises you that an item has a Pck Size that may increase your inventory excessively, based on your historical usage. In the Dispensing Analytics view, click "More Options" to evaluate a list of equivalent items and substitute for an item with a smaller package size.
